The 29th year of BOSS GP season ends with record

Once again, the engines of the BOSS GP Racing Series were fired up. For rounds 13 and 14 of the season, the teams and drivers travelled to one of the most beautiful race venues on the continent. The grand finale of the 2023 season took place in Tuscany. The 5.245-kilometre circuit in Mugello marked the end of a great 2023 season that was highlighted by new spectator records and the premiere of the BOSS GP Show Runs for Formula 1 cars.

Colombo does not ease up
The top drivers in the FORMULA class did not spare themselves anything during the last races of the season. After securing the championship title in Monza, Simone Colombo’s foot (ITA, MM International) remained on the throttle in Mugello. The now two-time BOSS GP Champion from the area near Milan was once again able to keep Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) at bay. The Italian duel in the FORMULA class continued in Mugello, although this time it was much less intense between the two GP2 drivers. In the second, longer race on Sunday, they were joined by another opponent, at least in the first half of the race: Marc Faggionato (MCO, MM International) in the strikingly dark green GP2 Dallara, however, had to settle for third place behind Colombo and Ghiotto.

Pizzonia breaks record
Unimpressed by the exciting battles for positions in the FORMULA class, Antonio Pizzonia (BRA, HS Engineering) took another overall victory on Sunday. The former Formula 1 driver therefore also finished the last race of the OPEN class in first place and managed to win all 14 season races. With a time of 1:31.120 min, Pizzonia also beat his best time from the previous day. This meant that Pizzonia succeeded in setting a new record in the World Series 4.5, as only Formula 1 cars have ever been faster on this track.

In the SUPER LIGHTS class, which includes cars with 6-cylinder engines, Walter Colacino (ITA, Walter Colacino Racing) won both races at Mugello with his Formula 3000 Lola.

All 2023 Champions
After seven events in France, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands, the champions of the 2023 season are Ingo Gerstl (BOSS GP F1 Class), Antonio Pizzonia (OPEN), Simone Colombo (FORMULA) and Henry Clausnitzer (SUPER LIGHTS). They will be honoured at the end-of-year party at the end of November in Salzburg.

Antonio Pizzonia (BRA, HS Engineering), Champion BOSS GP OPEN class:
“The last time I drove such a fast car was over ten years ago. My aim was to get back to that level of driving I had at that time. Every weekend was a challenge for me, we worked all the time to make myself and the car faster. I really enjoyed my time in the BOSS GP this year.”

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio), BOSS GP FORMULA class runner-up:
“I like racing in the BOSS GP Racing Series because of the very powerful cars. They surprise you with how hard it is to get to the cars’ limit. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with another win this year.”

What is BOSS GP?
Nowhere else can racing cars of the highest categories still be seen fulfilling their original purpose: racing. “BOSS” stands for Big Open Single Seater, which means: Only the large and powerful formula racing cars of recent years are allowed here. In addition to the Formula 1 cars of the past 20 years, the FIA-certified BOSS GP series is also open to Formula 2, IndyCar, World Series by Renault and A1 GP, among others. All together they offer action-packed, fast and powerful racing at its finest, which in this form is unique in the world of motorsports.
